There are no individual drivers for steering wheels. The driver of the Fanatec wheel base / racing wheel they are connected to will also support them.
Please download and install the latest driver and firmware for your wheel base / racing wheel before you mount this steering wheel!
The latest firmware is integrated into the driver and can be installed via the “update” tab in the driver panel.
What can be set in the Tuning Menu of my wheel? (CSW / CSL Base Series)
Inside the Tuning Menu you can change different values to tune the wheel. The following article will explain which features and values can be set.
S_1 (Setup 1-5)
You can select and store up to 5 different setups directly inside the tuning menu of your wheel.
SEN (default = 900)
The sensitivity/wheel angle can be changed from 900° (CSL E WB: 1080°) to 90° according to your needs. If SEN is set to “OFF/Aut” the PC Driver or the PS3 can directly set the value which is used by some games (Codemasters F1, GT5, …)
Since Firmware 094 the value OFF will be called “Aut“. This means that our driver and games can change this setting automatically by remote.
FF (default = 100)
The maximum strength of the Force Feedback motors can be adjusted from 100-0% in steps of 10%.
SHO (default = 100)
The strength of the shock/vibration motors inside the wheel rim can be adjusted from 100-0%. These vibration motors can be used by a game directly (Fanatec SDK) or by the ABS function.
ABS (default = OFF)
This feature can give you a direct and feel-able feedback about your brake inputs. If you set the value to 100 the vibration will start as soon as you give 100% brake input to the game. If you set it to 95% the vibration will start if you push the brake to 95% or more. The ABS feature uses the vibration within your wheel rim (can be turned off by settin SHO to “0”) AND the vibration motor on a CSP (V2) pedal set if it is connected directly to the wheel – not individually by USB. ABS can also be simulated dynamically by the game if the developer makes use of the Fanatec SDK.
LIN (default = OFF)
The linearity value can modify the steering input of your wheel. Set to “OFF” transfers the steering signals 100% linear to the game. If you raise the value the wheel will have reduced sensitivity in the wheel center. Using this feature you could control the wheel extremely precise while driving on straights (like in SEN 900° mode) even if you want to reach the maximum steering already at 180° (SEN 360°).
This parameter was removed from the tuning menu since firmware version V285 and newer. This decision has been made together with our customer because those settings have been primarily introduced for PS3 support (which is not given anymore) and did mostly cause issues in newer software.
DEA (default = OFF)
Some games do expect a racing wheel to have some deadzone in the middle which is not present of Fanatec wheels. But using this feature you could manually add a deadzone of your preferred size. The Value can be set from OFF to 100%.
This parameter was removed from the tuning menu since firmware version V285 and newer. This decision has been made together with our customer because those settings have been primarily introduced for PS3 support (which is not given anymore) and did mostly cause issues in newer software.
DRI (default = OFF)
The “Drift Mode” reduces the overal resistance of the wheel and let you turn the wheel more easy. It almost works like a power steering. It reduces the basic dampening of the wheel and makes the wheel turn faster. If the values is set too high (or if the games FFB interferes with this feature) you might experience some oscillation. If that happens – reduce the value or turn DRI “OFF” again.
FOR / SPR / DPR (default = 100)
These Force Feedback modifiers give you the ability to change the Force Feedback Signals of a game. In theory there are 3 types of signals which a game can send: Force (pushes the wheel into a special direction), sping (pulls the wheel towards the center) and damper (creates friction). Not every game uses all types of effects and some games even use only one type to create all different feelings. Using your tuning menu in the CSW you can increase or reduce these different effects individually.
On Xbox One you will not find those parameters in the tuning menu since the Xbox One FFB protocol/interface (GIP) does not contain individual force, spring and damper effects which could be modified.
Please do only set these values higher than 100% if the Force Feedback effects are clearly not strong enough and weaker in comparison to other games. When the game sends full effects and the wheel is set to 100% then the device will work on its power limit. Pushing up one value to a very high number or even raising multiple values will result in higher load on the motors and increased heat development.
FEI (Only for CSW V2.5 and CSL Wheel Bases)
default on CSW V2.5 :100
available since FW 446 which is included with driver v310
default on CSL Base: 050
available for the CSL Elite Wheel Base since FW 313 inlcuded with driver v292
and for the CSL Elite Racing Wheel for PS4 since FW 314 included with driver v292
This parameter adjusts the intensity of force effects and can make effects more smooth: OFF is very smooth and low noise while 100 is very sharp and direct. Tuning this parameter can improve the feeling of the wheel depending on the game. This can be helpful to reduce the noise level especially for bases assembled to tables or rigs.
All settings can be cleared and set to default by opening the tuning menu and then pressing and holding the tuning menu button for 10 seconds. The wheel will show “rSt” when the settings are reset.
Wheel bases not recognised in Steam games
Follow these steps to potentially solve the problem:
- Open the Steam application
- Select “View”
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Controller”
- In “General Controller Settings”, uncheck the checkbox for “Generic Gamepad Configuration Support”.
If the issue persists, reinstall the Steam Client.
Display and/or buttons not working. Rim not detected?
Symptoms:
- Display is not working on the CSW rim (when powerd on or which using the tuning menu)
- Buttons are not working on the rim
- Display, button or FFB function is cutting out while driving/turning the wheel
- CSW rim is not detected in driver control panel
Problem:
In this case there might be a problem with the connection between CSW Base and CSW rim. Please contact our support team with a proper problem desription to get the problem resolved asap and check if you can give the folling information right away.
Important information for our support team:
- Please check if you can see any visible damage of the pins inside the rim QR (QuickRelease)
- If you have a second rim please check if the other rim shows the same symptoms.
Thank you!
Windows XP support discontinued
Since Microsoft dropped their own support (April 2014) of Windows XP after more than 13 years we are not longer able to support this PC platform. The last wheels/pedals/shifter driver which supports Windows XP is driver 144. Later driver versions use new software technology which is just not possible on Windows XP.
If your hardware or a new firmware requires a newer operation system we only can recommend to upgrade your Windows operating system to a newer version which will not be outdated for a longer while.
Can I use ClubSport Wheel rims on the CSR Elite wheel?
Sadly it is not possible to mount and use rims like the “Formula rim for ClubSport Wheel” (CSW) rim on the CSR Elite (CSRE) wheel. The CSRE features a completely different electronics than the CSW which makes them incompatible even if the wheel base mechanics are very similar.
The ClubSport Wheel is capable of many new features (rim quick release and hot-swap, rev-leds, …) which made it necessary to develop a completely new electrical hardware and embedded software.
Can I use other (USB, RJ12, etc.) cables than the original ones?
In theory you can use any RJ12-RJ12 (6p6c straight) and USB (type A — type B; USB 1/2.0) cable which has the right connectors on both ends. If you use high quality cables of similar length to the originals, there should be no problem. Please keep in mind that Fanatec cannot guarantee perfect functionality if third-party products are involved even if the combination should work.
Important notes regarding (replacement) cables:
- Cables which are significantly longer than the original cables can cause connection issues
- Extension cables are often the source of connection issues. Longer high-quality cables are the better option
- If your product came with a high-quality ferrite core cable, a replacement cable should be of similar quality
Q: Can I purchase replacement “RJ12–RJ12” / “USB A — USB B” cables from Fanatec?
A: We should be able to offer replacement cables for all recent products. If they are not offered in the webshop, please ask our support team. But alternatively, it is also possible to use similar standard USB/RJ12 high quality cables, which are inexpensive and can be found at most electrical retailers.
One or two connector pins in the QuickRelease are shorter. Is this normal?
<span><p>You might notice that one pin is shorter on the Quick Release Connector.</p>
<p><strong>This is normal and does not affect the connectivity of the steering wheel.</strong></p>
<p>The purpose of the shorter pin is to connect last or after all other pins are already connected. This is called a lagging electrical circuit. It means the steering wheel will be supplied with electricity before the circuit is closed.</p>

Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3033929) -> Win7 issue with driver v261
We have received a couple reports that driver v261 cannot be installed on some Win7 PCs. The root cause is that Windows 7 Updates sometimes are not working as expected. Windows 7 is not aware of recent verification signatures. Therefore we needed to export a special driver for Windows 7 which includes our old driver signature as well. Please try this driver if you are experiencing issues like that:
2016.12.05-Fanatec_driver_261_DualSigned:
https://www.fanatec.com/forum/uploads/FileUpload/1d/bfd0b5d389b03d56d485708e3b9e8c.zip
CSW V2 and V2.5 users can also use our latest beta driver (V281) which resolves the issue as well:
https://www.fanatec.com/forum/discussion/547/fanatec-beta-driver-v281-for-csw-v2-and-v2-5/p1
This driver also works well for other Windows versions (Win7, Win8, Win8.1, Win10). Feel free to test this driver if you are having any issues installing the latest official driver v261 and let our support team know. Thank you!
The shifter paddle sticks when being pulled
If the shifting paddle tends to stick while shifting, the most likely the reason is a loosened grub screw.
In order to resolve the issue, please use a 1.5mm Allen key to tighten the screw so it no longer touches the frame of the shifter paddle module. To ensure that the issue does not reoccur, you can apply a screw lock solution to the thread of the grub screw.
Using display, vibration and rev LEDs in (more) PC games
EVERY PC game can use extended features (display, vibration, rev LEDs, rev Stripe, etc.) of our Fanatec Wheel products as well as ABS software controlled vibration (CSP pedals) but the game developer has to implement those features. We are rolling out the SDK right now (Okt. 2012)to them and they can implement whatever they want.
CSR, CSRE, GT2, PWTS, GT3V2: Fully supported using firmware 750+
CSW Series: Fully supported (all firmwares)
CSL Series: Fully supported
ClubSport Pedals: Fully Supported
Great example: Codemasters just updated F1 2012 on PC to use the SDK directly without any necessary modifications.
Alternatively you can use Fanaleds or SLIMax Manager to activate these unique features in many games. Both great applications can be downloaded for free:
www.fanaleds.com
http://www.eksimracing.com/getting-started-with-fanatec-hardware-and-slimax-mgr-pro/
-> If a game features native SDK support it will override the use of any 3rd party tool like Fanaleds.
